Well, well my friends, it has already been a little over a month since our last blog post. What a crazy month it has been. I am proud to report that we are still steadily and surely growing and increasing our client base. It is dance recital time and have been busy filling orders for the local Dance Company to create custom matching hair bows for recital costumes. It's been fun! Here is one of the several bows for the recital.

I haven't received any entries for the Serendipity Kids contest quite yet, so I am going to put that on hold until we start receiving some pictures! I'd love to show off your beautiful baby or child; especially if they are wearing something I have handmade!

In addition to filling orders for our bows and boutique accessories, I am busy working on several more creations to publish hopefully within the month of June.

Here we are already into our first week in 2009. It is absolutely amazing how fast the past year flew by. It seems just a few months ago I had initiated the creation of Always Serendipity. It has already been a year! I am continuing to pump out new items for my store and have created an eCommerce store on Yahoo to broaden my network range. I have been selling primarily through my eBay storefront, and it does pretty well. Although, at times it is so defeating to have to give back a good amount of my earnings to eBay and PayPal fees. But, this was a start and it has given me the opportunity to learn more about operating an online retail business.

I am busy listing new with tags and excellent worn children's clothing; creating many new boutique hair bows, tutus, hair bow holders and several other girlie accessories. I am really excited about my newest projects with petti-skirt tutus and diaper cakes. I am scheduling myself to attend several shows and possibly Canton in 2009. Of course, this is contingent on show fees and how well business is throughout the year!

Holiday Vendor Events

This is my first year attending any type of vendor event and I am really excited! I am going to be in Irving this week attending a bi-annual event at a corporate building that is organized through the property management company of this particular space/building. There should be a decent turn out since there are over 1,000 employees in the building. Hopefully, I'll do well!!!

I am going to be attending a holiday event on Saturday through the Japanese Association of Dallas and then at the Dance Company in Wylie. I wasn't able to register myself into any of the big Plano events this year, but I'm certain I will be there next year!

Build Out vs. Existing Space (built out)

I met with a counselor at the North Texas Business Center, affiliated to the SBA. I was originally looking at new retail spaces in Wylie or Murphy, TX. However, after my meeting yesterday, it may be best to pursue an existing space to lease that is already established; ie already have plumbing, walls, ac/heat, etc. If I were to lease a 'new' retail space, I would probably need to add another $60K to my business loan just for the build out. Yikes! I am still going to seek availability in Wylie or Murphy, as well as possibly Rockwall.

What is Serendipity?

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.

I had originally thought of the name Discovering Serendipity for my store name and then realized that it actually repeats itself; Discovering Discovering something new or fortunate. With a few suggestions and ideas later, I decided to go with Always Serendipity. Serendipity defines me and the events throughout my life. Many times I have had serendipitous discoveries and have been very fortunate. Which leads us to my most treasured accidental discovery; the introduction of my future husband (never knew this man would become my best friend, husband and father to our beautiful children).

What a great name for a business that is going to buy and sell quality children and maternity resale clothing!

I filed for our DBA (Doing Business As) today, so we are officially, 'Always Serendipity'. Now, it is time to focus on our business plan and converting ourselves into an LLC. I have so many ideas of how I want to operate the business, but I know that it is more important to pace myself and do things right.
